Dear quantum innovation friends,
Time flies, and
it’s already time for our final newsletter before the summer holidays. And what
a spring it has been!
Over the past
few months, we’ve focused on strengthening both national and international
relationships, encouraging joint learning, and raising awareness of Sweden’s
quantum capabilities. At the same time, QSIP has continued with innovation-supporting
activities that help translate quantum research into proof-of-concept projects,
foster collaboration between academia and industry, and promote gender equality
in quantum innovation. All of this aligns with our slogan: Empowering
Sweden’s Quantum Innovation Future.
Looking back on
the spring of 2025, we’re proud to say that IQT Nordics 2025 was
a great success. The conference brought together more than 200 participants
from 16 countries, representing a wide range of stakeholders across the quantum
ecosystem. It was a pleasure to meet so many of our newsletter subscribers
there.
Another
highlight has been the growing Nordic collaboration. In the end of May, the
Nordic Prime Ministers and Head of Governments signed a declaration for
coordinated commitments in Quantum Technology and in a joint statement they
mention 10 areas where the Nordics countries shall collaborate to continue to
be a region that is globally recognized within the field of Quantum Technology.
On an eco-system level, actors from Denmark (The Danish Quantum Community),
Finland (InstituteQ), and Sweden (QSIP) have come together in new ways. This
has led to a joint response to the EU’s open call for evidence on its Quantum
Technology Strategy, as well as a collaborative project application to the
Nordic Innovation Call: Green and Competitive Nordic Region. We also had the
opportunity to attend two events hosted by DQC. Their Industrial Days in late
May were especially inspiring as we prepare for our own QSIP Annual Days, which
will take place October 1–2 at KTH in Stockholm. Before that, we will visit the
Finnish Quantum Days, taking place in Helsinki in the beginning of September
giving us a chance for more interactions with our Nordic colleagues.
Our
international efforts have also extended beyond the Nordics. We recently
organized a
delegation to Singapore and are working toward establishing a Memorandum of Understanding between
Swedish stakeholders and Singapore’s National Quantum Office (NQO). As a direct
result of this delegation, Vinnova has launched a new call:
Innovative collaborations with Singapore in quantum technology for small and
medium-sized enterprises. This initiative aims to support partnerships
initiated during the trip and foster deeper collaboration between our two
countries.
As we head into
the summer break, we’re also looking forward to an exciting fall. We’ll
continue to develop QSIP, and its activities, and we’d love your input. All
subscribers should have received an email with a short survey about the
platform and our future focus areas. Your feedback is invaluable and will help
shaping our upcoming initiatives. You can access the survey here,
and we welcome your participation even if you’re new to the platform or not yet
a subscriber. In addition, before the vacation starts, we encourage you to have
a look at the list of open calls further down in this newsletter. We have noted
that there are several calls closing in August or early September. Among those
we can highlight that the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT) have
now opened another round of possibility for Industrial PhD or industrial
postdoc project for SME companies.
We wish you all
a relaxing and sunny summer!

IQT
Nordics 2025With over 200 participants and
a lineup of world-class speakers, the third annual IQT Nordics conference took
place on May 20–22, 2025, at the Chalmers Conference Centre, Chalmers
University of Technology in Gothenburg. Following successful editions in
Copenhagen (2023) and Helsinki (2024), this year’s event focused on the
theme: “Real-World Applications and Progress Enabled by Quantum
Technology.” The sessions, ranging from keynote talks to dynamic panel
discussions, offered evidence of the field’s rapid advancement and marked
another significant step toward the commercialization of quantum applications.
| Side
events at IQT Nordics |
Connected to the conference, we
had the pleasure to co-host a side event with Business Region Göteborg. 15
representatives from Gothenburg-based companies received a one-hour crash
course on the latest developments in Quantum Technology followed by an
opportunity to visit the exhibition of the IQT Nordics.

Together with Chalmers Next
Labs and IBM, we arranged a workshop on “Industrial Applications of Quantum
Computing” to introduce “beginners” in industry to the opportunities of quantum
computing. The workshop was well-visited and included use cases presentations,
round-table discussions and a visit to the WACQT Quantum Technology Testbed. | | | |
DQC
Industry DayWith 400 attendees (with more
on the waiting list) and 30 exhibitors, this year’s edition of the DQC Industry
Day was a success. The event opened with a welcome speech by Morten Bødskov,
Danish Minister for Industry, Business, and Financial Affairs. In his remarks,
the Minister emphasized that quantum technology holds the potential to
revolutionize society, offering solutions to critical challenges in sectors
such as energy, pharmaceuticals, defense, and finance. This message was echoed
and illustrated throughout the day in the various presentations and
discussions, which showcased the progress and applications emerging from the
quantum technology landscape in Denmark.

Quantum Meets and Q-expoIn
May, Jon Wingborg from QSIP participated in a panel discussion at Quantum Meets
in Amsterdam about Quantum Sandboxes – Driving Business Growth through
Collaboration and Access. The event provided a great opportunity to highlight
the importance of open infrastructure and share how our innovation competition
has helped generate industry-driven ideas for potential quantum technology use
cases. Organized by QUIC and Quantum Delta, Quantum Meets brought together key
players from across the European quantum ecosystem.
| | | | Webinars about female role modelsThis spring, we launched a new webinar series highlighting inspiring female role models in Quantum Technology. In the first two sessions, we had the pleasure of hearing from Dr. Rui Lin (Chalmers University of Technology) and Dr. Araceli Venegas-Gomez (QUERCA Ltd). Both webinars were recorded, so if you're interested in watching them, feel free to reach out to us!
The series will continue this fall, with new webinars scheduled for August and September. Stay tuned for more details! | | AlmedalenFor the first time, QSIP was represented at Almedalen—one of Sweden’s
most prominent and distinctive forums for political and societal dialogue, held
annually in Visby on the island of Gotland. As part of our participation, we
joined a roundtable discussion hosted by Lund University on the theme “Joint
Initiatives on Quantum in Sweden.” In addition to contributing to this
important conversation, we attended several insightful seminars, including:
•
A session on cybersecurity in the age
of quantum computing, organized by Avancerad Digitalisering.
•
A forward-looking seminar on the future
of quantum technology, hosted by Chalmers University of Technology.
The later of the two seminars addressed the critical need
for national commitment and coordination in areas such as talent attraction and
retention, infrastructure development, standardization and international
collaboration, areas where QSIP can contribute significantly.
