Dear quantum innovation friends,
I hope this
newsletter finds you well!
Believe it or not,
Christmas is just around the corner, and soon we’ll be welcoming a new year.
This also means QSIP is turning two years old, and what a journey it has been!
The community has grown, and we’re grateful that so many of you continue to engage
with our activities and events.
Since our last
newsletter, a lot has happened: a Memorandum of Understanding was signed for
collaboration in Quantum Technology between Sweden and Singapore, we organized
Swedish delegations to both the Swiss Quantum Week and the UK National Quantum
Technologies Showcase, and QSIP was well represented at EQTC in Copenhagen. You
can read more about all of this below.
It’s also worth
mentioning that several pre-studies related to Quantum Technology for the
Excellence Cluster initiative, funded by Vinnova and VR, kicked off in
November. Multiple workshops will be held where participants outside these
project consortia can join and help shape the future clusters. If you’re
interested in this work but unsure who to contact, feel free to reach out to
us,
we’ll guide you in the right direction. We’ll also do our best to list upcoming
workshops in our calendar.
Lastly, don’t forget
our Partnership
Forum!
This partnership offers a valuable opportunity for stakeholders in Sweden’s
quantum community to help shape our work, and the partnership fees will be
crucial if we aim to expand QSIP’s activities.
With kindest regards,
Camilla Johansson,
Director QSIP

MoU between Singapore and Sweden within QuantumSingapore’s National Quantum Office and 11 Swedish universities and research institutes have committed to promoting collaboration in the field of quantum technology. On Oct 31st, the Swedish Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister for Energy, Business and Industry, Ebba Busch, and Jasmin Lau, Minister of State, Ministry of Digital Development and Information & Ministry of Education, attended the ceremony in Singapore to witness the signing. The MoU was, during the cermony, signed by Mr. Ling Keok Tong, Executive Director of the National Quantum Office (NQO), representing Singapore’s quantum ecosystem, and Dr. Camilla Johansson, Director of the Quantum Sweden Innovation Platform (QSIP), representing the eleven Swedish research institutions.

delegations to Swiss Quantum Week and UK National Quantum Technologies Showcase
In October and November, QSIP organized trips to the Swiss
Quantum Week and the UK National Quantum Technologies Showcase. For both
events, QSIP facilitated travel grants from Vinnova to support Swedish SMEs and
start-ups.
QSIP’s Vice Director, Jon Wingborg,
participated in both trips and is continuously seeking new opportunities to
connect Swedish actors with the broader international quantum community. Please
reach out to him if you are interested do join future delegation and/or know
about an event we shouldn’t miss. | European
Quantum Technologies Conference (EQTC)
As part of Denmark’s EU Council presidency, EQTC 2025 was held
in Copenhagen from November 10–13. With a focus on science, policy, and
business, the conference brought together representatives from across Europe
and beyond. This annual event was originally launched by the European Quantum
Flagship.
A strong focus was on Europe’s role in the global quantum race.
The discussions circled about how fragmented the field is in Europe and that we
need to collaborate even more to become a leader (and self-sufficient) in this
area. The atmosphere was marked by both pride and concern: Europe has strong
research and public funding but is falling behind in commercialization and
venture capital. For example, it was mentioned that Europe has the most
start-ups in the quantum field, but there is no scalability due to lack of
funding.
The conference also reflected the paradox we have encountered
many times before: the desire to remain open and collaborative while at the
same time needing to protect critical technology. The European strategy
published this summer and the upcoming Quantum Act were, of course, mentioned
in several presentations, which also addressed how these should or ought to be
implemented.
Conclusion: Europe has a chance to lead but must act quickly and
in unity!
During the conference, QSIP’s director Camilla Johansson
participated in a panel discussion, focusing on the importance of ecosystems
and the role of international collaboration at the ecosystem level. The
discussion highlighted how interconnected ecosystems foster innovation and
accelerate progress across borders. Building strong collaborative frameworks is
essential for sustainable growth and global impact in quantum technologies. Fellow
panalists: Kristine Helen Falgren (Danish Quantum Community), Freeke Heijman-te
Paske (European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC)), Vita Markeviciute (the
Research council Lithuana) and Jonathan Legh-Smith MBE (UKQuantum)
