Dear quantum innovation friends,
I hope this
newsletter finds you well! Time is flying, and it’s been a truly intense start
to this autumn.
Just after vacation,
the QSIP project consortium submitted a new application to Vinnova for
continued funding of our platform, and I’m delighted to share that we’ve now
received confirmation that we are eligible for funding for another two years!
As before, Vinnova will cover 50% of the platform costs, with the remaining
support coming from project partners or associated partners through our partnership
forum. This partnership offers a valuable opportunity for stakeholders in
Sweden’s quantum community to help shape our work, and the partnership fees
will be crucial if we aim to expand QSIP’s activities.
Last week, we hosted
the second edition of the QSIP Annual Days, generously hosted by KTH
Innovation. Over 100 participants joined us across various sessions during the
lunch-to-lunch conference. During the first day, we explored the proposed
Swedish quantum strategy alongside the European and Nordic perspectives. The day
concluded with presentations highlighting QSIP’s activities over the past year.
On the second day, we welcomed several Swedish start-ups who pitched their
ideas and discussed common challenges and collaboration possibilities. We also
had the opportunity to learn more about what the Swedish government officies
are working on within the field, the combination of Quantum and AI as well as
Quantum Safe. If you’d like to read more, we’ve published a short article about
the QSIP Annual Days on our webpage.
Did you know there
are several open quantum-related positions in Sweden? ConScience, ScalinQ, QET,
and IonQ are all currently hiring. These opportunities are listed on our Quantum
Connect page.
If you have any job offers or requests relevant to the quantum community, don’t
hesitate to submit them—we’ll be happy to share them there.
Last, but not least,
we’re thrilled to see that this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics was awarded to
researchers in the field of quantum science—yet another strong validation of
its importance and impact during the UNESCO International Year of Quantum.
Kind regards, Camilla Johansson,
Director QSIP

ReCIN
On September 1st, we launched a collaborative project with our
Nordic counterparts—DQC (Denmark) and InstituteQ (Finland)—called ReCIN:
Resilience and Critical Infrastructure for the Nordics.
The goal of ReCIN is to identify and develop use cases where
quantum technologies can enhance the resilience of critical infrastructure
across the Nordic region. These use cases will demonstrate early applications
of quantum solutions in sectors vital to Nordic societies, such as water and
energy supply, telecommunications, and navigation systems like GPS and Galileo.
ReCIN marks the first joint initiative bringing together key
stakeholders from the quantum industries in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and
Sweden. The project is part of Nordic Innovation’s Resilience and
Competitiveness for 2050 programme, aiming to strengthen the region’s
preparedness and technological edge for the future.

Finnish
Quantum DaysQSIP was present at the Finnish Quantum Days during September. This year’s FQD marked the official
launch of the Finnish Quantum Strategy and was opened with speech by Sakari
Puisto, Minister of Economic Affairs, followed by Marianne Nissilä from the
Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Both ministries highlighted 2025 as a landmark
year - the international year of quantum and celebrating 60 years of low-temperature
quantum research in Finland. The Finnish Quantum Days addressed both research
and innovation during two days.

Quantum World CongressQSIP’s outreach manager Jon Wingborg visited for the second year
the Quantum World Congress, held in Washington D.C. in September. During the
conference, he held a presentation focusing on the latest developments in
quantum technology in Sweden, including our growing Nordic collaborations. The
week was filled with engaging meetings and thought-provoking discussions, with
highlights including presenting QSIP at both the Swedish and Finnish embassies,
and a memorable dinner hosted by the Ambassador of the Netherlands. In addition,
it should be highlighted that Karim Elgammal from RISE was presented as one of
the winners in the Global Industry Challenge. Jon’s key takeaway from the conference: quantum technology is accelerating
fast. The global momentum is undeniable, and it’s becoming increasingly clear
that useful quantum computers will likely be a reality before 2030. | | | |
Nordic Quantum Life Science
Roundtable
This fall marked the 5-year jubilee of the Nordic
Quantum Life Science Roundtable. Nordic representatives, including our director
Camilla Johansson, gathered at Biomedicum, Karolinska Institutet for a half-day conference focused on use cases in Life
Science. The event was opened by Martin Bergö, Vice President, Karolinska Institutet, and Maria Nilsson, State Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Research.
As we dived into a series of inspiring presentations and fruitful discussions,
we carry with us the words of Lene B. Oddershede, Chief Scientific Officer, Novo Nordisk Foundation: “In Quantum, we, the Nordics,
still have a chance to be ahead globally.” Let’s keep pushing the boundaries
together!

October 13 (12:00-13:00)
Webinar:
Quantum Standardisation Standards are required to
truly enable commercialization of quantum technologies. For example, it’s first
with standards that communication between different stakeholders or different
technologies truly can function. There are currently increasing efforts in
standardization of quantum technologies. New standards are being developed. The
only way to ensure that these standards will be good and in line with your
interests is to join the work. For more information and registration, read here.
